EDMONDS CENTER FOR THE ARTS, EDMONDS, WA :: Kristie and I invited my parents to see San Jose Taiko perform in downtown Edmonds to celebrate my dad's birthday. The show began with a single, large drum that was carefully rolled onto the center of the dark stage. A spotlight beamed onto the drummer and the audience was completely silent. The drummer then suddenly struck the drum once. The surprisingly loud boom frightened my poor, little mother to death, causing her to loudly exclaim, "Gamjigiya!" which I believe is Korean for, "OMG!" After she settled down, we all enjoyed the concert.
