Cirque du Soleil: Varekai
MARYMOOR PARK, REDMOND, WA :: Kristie and I invited my parents to see Varekai, another amazing Cirque du Soleil show touring the world and making a stop at Redmond's Marymoor Park. The performances were breathtaking, the music was enchanting, and the clowns were hilarious! It was great to see Mom and Dad wide-eyed and grinning the entire time.

Watching a Cirque du Soleil show is like watching a dream. Everything is colorful and fanciful. The mesmerizing music and the unbelievable performances transport the audience to the edge of reality. At one point the Grand Chapiteau went pitch black, relit a few seconds later by hundreds of tiny glowbugs that danced through the air and surrounded us. We loved that moment and so many others! How often as an adult can you feel the kid-like joy and wonderment of a completely new and exhilarating experience?

Kristie and I can't wait to see another show!

Nice pictures. Too bad cameras are not allowed inside. I would have loved to see what you would have gotten.

Thanks! I used the Elph for these.

Usually, I try to discreetly shoot as many photos as I can before I'm told to stop, but I didn't want to risk being kicked out of here.

Its funny that even though your Dad was there you it looks like you still took a self portrait of you and Kristie. Is that something you just like to do?

Self portraits are certainly easier with a digital camera. You don't have to ask or rely on someone else to shoot and compose, there's instant feedback via the review screen, and one can take as many shots as needed. Mom and Dad remained in the tent during the intermission when Kristie and I did some exploring. We actually had a couple people take our photo, but we prefer the close-up portrait I posted.

That is the hard part about getting a picture of me. Usually I will hand the camera off to someone (Becky) and then there will be no picture taken when I get the camera back.

I actually saw this show too! Except it was in NYC (of course). It really is a great show, I recommend seeing it to everyone =)
